It’s been awhile huh? I hope you’re all well. I on the other hand am still growing my bangs, LOL. Apart from my confused bangs, I have been very diligent with composing entries but finishing it – the laid back ‘Mae’ enjoys saving them as drafts, LOL. But that’s all going to change from here on (I hope), knowing that I have 2 vivid readers, I wouldn’t want to disappoint them, ey? Last week has been a ‘LOVE WEEK’ – sprinkled with love dusts! It’s been a fun-filled week but I particularly want to share about my childhood friends. I can truthfully say that we have been through thick and thin!
Last week we (four of us) agreed to spend an afternoon snacks together after months! It was a request from Normi – oh before anything else, allow me to introduce our actresses for this story, a short background wouldn’t hurt too.
Normi: is happily married to Daniel for more than a year now and they have been blessed with a little baby boy, Ziki (3 months old). Normi and I have been friends since our teen years!
Riz: is also happily married to my best friend Bud – they will be celebrating their first year anniversary this coming August. Riz is now pregnant with twins and I am just ecstatic to soon know about their genders!!! She and I have been friends even before our teens, haha.
Ivy: is soon to be married! She is now engaged to Angel and I am praying that soon after they get married Ivy gets pregnant – FAST! Ivy and I have been friends almost the same time Riz and I became friends.
Yes, I’m sure now you understand that we all really have been through thick and thin. We usually count years with the measure of lbs. – 50 pounds ago, LOL! Now that we have made the introductions, let’s go on with the story.
Riz, Ivy and I often see each other, every week actually. But Normi on the other hand, we seldom see her. Since I got back from Singapore I have only seen her twice as oppose to Riz and Ivy whom I see twice or even thrice a week. So two Sundays ago, Normi made a surprise appearance at church, she and Daniel and the little baby boy, Ziki. She begged for us to take her out, LOL – just kidding. She asked if we can all meet for a bonding moment. Normi is a full-time housewife/mom now, Riz and Ivy is working full-time in their own industries and I am a full-time stay-at-home dog sitter, LOL. The three of us Normi, Ivy and yours truly were free to meet on a Tuesday, Riz of course wouldn’t miss out on this and she decided to take a half-day leave.
The four of us met at Trinoma, Conti’s, it was just a wonderful time. During our younger days our topics usually revolved about who our crushes were and I can still remember the old bridge that we used to kill time at with our favourite game killer killer. But one of my fondest memories that I hope our own kids will get to experience together, like how we all did – how we all loved sleepovers and how we can all fit in a queen sized bed and spend hours talking about love and our hopes and dreams. I am just blessed to have these girls turned beautiful women in my life.
Now that we all have grown and each blessed to have success stories to tell – our bonding moments now are so much deeper that I sometimes have to take a pause to internalize how the Lord has blessed us so much. The one thing I have learned from my own experience of numerous girl talks – the topic love never gets old! It just never does, it’s just the depth that changes. We used to talk about our hopes and dreams and now it’s about how we achieved them and for some, how we continue to chase them.
In my teens I used to think that life ends at 28 but now that I’m 28 – life actually is just starting to make sense and I still have a lot to live for. Normi and Riz now have their own families and Ivy will soon have her own too and being the last single lady from our group, I thought at first that I won’t be able to cope with how their lives are going but in reality our friendship just accelerated to another level. And yes, it’s not just our age that grows old but our experiences and every part of us grows with age. Marriage, engagements, families, babies, husbands and career paths – it’s what every girl dreamt of in her young days and now we have those in our own palms and I’m just so glad and grateful that in the years that we planned and dreamed about all those things, we girls are still together, sharing about our favourite topic – Love.
Corny as it is, but there is truth to — friends forever.
PS. Photographs were taken by Riz.
